Communities for Just Schools Fund invites you to Intelligent Community-Designed Futures: A Funder Pre-Institute on Artificial Intelligence & Technology. This event precedes the 5th Annual Data 4 Public Good (D4PG) conference, scheduled for July 18-19 in St. Paul, MN. The pre-institute is hosted by Communities for Just Schools Fund, Twin Cities Innovation Alliance (TCIA), Funders for Justice and Schott Foundation for Public Education.

Why AI?
The discourse around Artificial Intelligence (AI) often overlooks a critical truth: AI is shaped by human intelligence and behavior. Yet, local communities remain significantly underrepresented in AI’s design and application across various sectors. AI is not a neutral tool; it reflects human biases and limitations.

Our discussion will center on the human aspect of AI, exploring both its limitations and potential to foster connections, compassion, and creativity in educational settings facing rapid technological change. AI isn’t a panacea for educational challenges. Instead, it’s a human-created tool with inherent biases. By working together, we can empower communities to shape AI in ways that support just futures for students, families, and schools.

Why This Pre-Institute?
This pre-institute is a unique opportunity for funders to connect and explore the emergent potential of investing in community and field infrastructure to support youth, parents, and educators grappling with AI. As significant philanthropic funds and AI deployment efforts increase, this event will equip funders with the knowledge to develop equity-driven strategies that emphasize ethical, human-centered AI design and implementation.
