The Opportunity Myth: What Students Can Show Us About How School Is Letting Them Down – and How to Fix It

Program Dates
May 2, 2019, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. ET

Save the date for this webinar with TNTP and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative on what students really experience in school, as well as strategies, based on research, to make equitable opportunities for all students.

What do students experience in school? What are they’re asked to do? How do they spend their time? To what extent do they have access to grade-appropriate assignments, engaging experiences, strong instruction and teachers with high expectations? Across the country, we’ve been telling students and families that doing well in school creates opportunities — that showing up, doing the work and meeting teachers’ expectations will prepare them for their futures. Unfortunately, that’s a myth, as TNTP uncovered in "The Opportunity Myth: What Students Can Show Us About How School Is Letting Them Down – And How to Fix It." Participants will learn about the results of TNTP’s research following nearly 4,000 students in five diverse school systems for a year and will discuss strategies for making equitable opportunity for all students – particularly students of color and those from low-income backgrounds – more than a myth.

Registration will open soon; closes May 1.
